This fall, Seong-Jin Cho brings his singular artistry to audiences in Toronto, Paris, and Bangkok, appearing in a recital of Chopin’s waltzes, as well as works by Liszt, Beethoven, and Bartók.

Cho opens the program with Liszt’s shimmering Jeux d’eaux à la Villa d’Este, followed by Beethoven’s peaceful Sonata No. 15 in D major, Op. 28, “Pastoral.” The first half of the program concludes with Bartók’s Out of Doors, Sz. 81, a vivid depiction of the natural world, full of bold rhythms, percussive textures, and striking harmonic colors.

In the second half, Cho will play 14 of Chopin’s elegant waltzes. The winter of the 2015 Chopin International Competition, Cho’s performances of the works of Chopin were praised for their “jaw-dropping loveliness” (The Times), and described as “playing of wonderful grace and glitter – always commanding but refined too, the virtuosity as lightly worn as the piano flourishes were dexterously airborne, winging their way like magical sprites” (Seen & Heard International).

Cho performs this recital in Toronto on November 29 at Koerner Hall, at Paris’ Théâtre des Champs-Élysées on December 9, and at Bangkok’s Prince Mahidol Hall on December 21.
