Rachmaninoff with the Boston Symphony Orchestra

This fall, Seong-Jin Cho returns to the Boston Symphony Orchestra for a four-concert subscription series dedicated to the music of Sergei Rachmaninoff.

The performances mark a swift and welcome return to Boston following Cho’s July appearance with the BSO at the Tanglewood Music Festival, where he performed Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor, Op. 23 at the Koussevitzky Music Shed alongside dancers from the Boston Ballet under the baton of Music Director Andris Nelsons.

At Symphony Hall, Cho takes the stage as soloist in Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Op. 43. The composer’s final work balances dazzling, technical demands with the luminous Romantic lyricism epitomized in its famous 18th Variation. The orchestra completes the all-Rachmaninoff program with the composer’s expansive Symphony No. 2 in E minor, Op. 27, a monumental pillar of the late-Romantic symphonic repertoire.

The concerts take place at Symphony Hall from September 30 through October 3.
