On Friday, July 10, pianist Seong-Jin Cho joins Music Director Andris Nelsons and the Boston Symphony Orchestra to open the BSO’s summer residency at the Tanglewood Music Festival. Performing in the Koussevitzky Music Shed, Cho is the featured soloist in an all-Tchaikovsky program spotlighting the composer’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor, Op. 23.

The appearance marks a celebrated return for Cho, reuniting him with the BSO following their acclaimed winter performances of the same concerto at Symphony Hall. Nelsons also leads the orchestra in selections from Swan Lake, Op. 20, joined on stage by principal dancers from the Boston Ballet.

Cho’s interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s First Concerto has drawn wide critical acclaim for its balance of emotional depth and technical poise, with Bachtrack commending “his customary refinement to the concerto, resisting the temptation to overstate its grand gestures.”

Listen to Cho perform Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor, Op. 23 from the 14th International Tchaikovsky Competition.
