Less than a decade after his New York recital debut, Seong-Jin Cho ranks among the most in-demand artists to appear on the Carnegie Hall stage. On Sunday, April 12, the pianist returns to Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage for an anticipated matinee recital showcasing works by J.S. Bach, Arnold Schoenberg, Robert Schumann, and Frédéric Chopin.

J.S. Bach’s Partita No. 1 in B-flat major, BWV 825 sets the tone for the afternoon, demonstrating one of the composer’s supreme balances between keyboard virtuosity and contrapuntal elegance. Schoenberg’s Suite for Piano, Op. 25 follows—a taut, urgent modern expression that contrasts sharply with the wTit and revelry of Schumann’s Faschingsschwank aus Wien, Op. 26. In the second half, Cho presents an extensive collection of 14 Waltzes by Chopin, traversing a vibrant emotional spectrum from intimate melancholy to sparkling salon brilliance.

Leading up to his Carnegie Hall appearance, Cho performs the program across the United States, with stops at Baltimore’s Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall on April 6, Steinmetz Hall at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in Orlando on April 9, and Spivey Hall in Atlanta on April 10.
