Tchaikovsky in Rome and Boston
This January, Seong-Jin Cho joins orchestras in Boston and Rome for one of the most iconic pieces: Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Cho has been widely praised for his interpretation of this bold and dramatic work, with Bachtrack saying, “Cho shaped an introspective cadenza, caressing the keys poetically with a dreamy touch.. The finale was a sprightly dash, pizzicato strings and scampering woodwinds always lively, the coda full of hell-for-leather excitement.”
Cho joins the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia on January 8, 10, and 11, under the baton of Manfred Honeck. In addition to the Tchaikovsky, the orchestra will play Weber’s overture to his opera, Oberon, as well as Dvořák’s jubilant Symphony No. 8.
On January 15, 16, and 17, Cho will perform with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Andris Nelsons, in a program that also includes Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and Allison Loggins-Hull’s Rhapsody on a Theme by Joni.
On January 18, Cho will also be featured in concert with the BSO’s Chamber Players. He will join the small ensemble for Brahms’ Piano Quartet No. 1 in a program that also features Valerie Coleman’s Rubispheres, for flute, clarinet, and bassoon and the world premiere of Carlos Simon’s Gardner Suite, a BSO commission.
