Rachmaninoff in New York and Monaco
This December, Seong-Jin Cho plays Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini at two iconic venues: New York’s Carnegie Hall and Monaco’s Auditorium Rainier III. It’s a piece Cho has performed to great acclaim with orchestras around the world, including the Orchestre National de France, the Seattle Symphony, and the KBS Symphony Orchestra.
Cho performs this rich and electrifying work at Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh on December 2 and at Carnegie Hall on December 3, joining the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra for a program that includes Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, as well as the New York premiere of Lera Auerbach’s Frozen Dreams. As a planned encore, Cho will also play Chopin’s Waltz in C-sharp Minor, Op. 64. Manfred Honeck, Music Director of the PSO, conducts.
On December 7, Cho returns to the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, playing Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini alongside Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 1 in D major, Op. 25 “Classical Symphony,” and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 9, under the baton of Kazuki Yamada. The Orchestra most recently engaged Cho for a solo recital, where he performed works by Haydn, Ravel, and Liszt.
