This spring, Seong-Jin Cho appears in recital at venues all over Europe, performing two exciting programs that showcase his “luminosity” and “fresh individuality of spirit” (Financial Times).

The first of these recitals celebrates the beauty of nature, opening with Liszt’s Les Jeux d’eaux à la Villa d’Este, followed by Beethoven’s Sonata No. 15 in D major, Op. 28, commonly known as the Pastoral Sonata, and Bartók’s percussive Im Freien (Outdoors), Sz. 81. The program closes with Brahms’ last and most expansive piano sonata, Piano Sonata No. 3 in F minor, Op. 5. Cho brings this fresh program to the Théâtre Olympia d’Arcachon on April 18, Madrid’s Auditorio Nacional de Música on April 20, and Barcelona’s Palau de la Música Catalana on April 22.  In May, Cho travels to Germany, playing in Stuttgart on May 5 at the Liederhalle Beethovensaal, and Munich on May 7 at the Prinzregententheater before going on to Katowice, Copenhagen, Müllheim for the Klavierfestival Ruhr, and Milan.

At the same time, Cho continues his celebration of the music of Maurice Ravel, appearing in recital with an all-Ravel program that pulls from his recent double album, Ravel: The Complete Solo Piano Works. Of his recent performances of Ravel’s piano works at Carnegie Hall, Bachtrack praised Cho, saying “Hearing Cho, with his impeccable technique and acute musical sensitivity, play the whole of this magnificent repertoire over the course of a single evening, deepened one’s appreciation of the beauty and originality of Ravel’s pianistic oeuvre.”

Cho brings this riveting recital to the NDR Hannover on April 27, followed by a performance at the Philharmonie Berlin on April 29, where Cho is Artist-in-Residence. He will appear at the Barbican Center in London on May 2, the Tonhalle Düsseldorf on May 12, Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie Großer Saal on May 13, and will close this leg of the tour on May 19 at Cologne’s Philharmonic Hall.
