On September 27, 28 & 29, Seong-Jin Cho joins The Philadelphia Orchestra for their highly anticipated season-opening weekend, marking a stellar collaboration between the virtuoso and the ensemble under the direction of Yannick Nézet-Séguin. The opening concerts will showcase a powerful programme that pairs Beethoven’s Second Piano Concerto with Bruckner’s monumental Seventh Symphony.

Cho, known for his masterful interpretations of classical repertoire, will take center stage for Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2. He has previously garnered high praise for his rendition of this work, with critics noting his ability to strike a delicate balance between intimacy and grandeur: “In the lead-up to the cadenza in the second movement, for instance, Cho and the orchestra struck an astonishingly delicate balance between the quiet, intricate beauty of the piano in conversation with the tremendous, dynamic power of the full orchestra” (St. Louis Post-Dispatch).

Following the Beethoven concerto, Maestro Nézet-Séguin will lead the orchestra in Bruckner’s luminous Seventh Symphony, a work that stands as a testament to the composer’s profound faith and musical vision.
