On January 5 & 7, Seong-Jin Cho returns to the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra for two performances under the baton of Santtu-Matias Rouvali. At just twenty-one years old, Cho made his debut with Concertgebouw in 2015 and returned to Amsterdam’s famous hall in 2017 for his solo debut.

The program journeys through different styles and periods, beginning with Louise Farrenc’s Overture No. 2, a French composer known for her contributions to classical music. This specific overture exhibits Farrenc’s skillful orchestration and melodic inventiveness.

Cho plays Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1, a hallmark of the Romantic period and widely beloved for its passionate melodies and intricate pianism. The program concludes with Schubert’s Symphony No. 6. Composed in 1817 when Schubert was just 20 years old, the symphony showcases the composer’s mastery of classical form and melody.
