Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 in Amsterdam

Seong-Jin Cho, under the baton of Joana Mallwitz, will perform Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Concertgebouw Orchestra on September 23 and 24. It is a welcome return for the pianist, who was last seen in Amsterdam this past March where he performed a diverse repertoire featuring pieces by Bach, Schoenberg, Schumann, and Chopin at the Concertgebouw.

Cho has earned acclaim for his technical brilliance and poetic nuance in the work, seamlessly balancing fiery virtuosity with deeply reflective introspection. Bachtrack praised his musical phrasing of Tchaikovsky’s score, highlighting how he caresses the keys “poetically with a dreamy touch.”

The program also features Paul Hindemith’s Symphony: Mathis der Maler and Strauss’s Walzerfolge No. 1 from Der Rosenkavalier.
