Solo Recitals and Tour with The Munich Philharmonic in Asia
This spring, pianist Seong-Jin Cho joins the Munich Philharmonic and conductor Lahav Shani for a tour of Asia, presenting two distinct orchestral programs across Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan. Cho performs as the featured soloist in both Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in C major, Op. 15 and Prokofiev’s virtuosic Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor, Op. 16.
The tour alternates between the two showpieces alongside substantial symphonic works. With Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 2—framed by Beethoven’s Egmont Overture and Brahms’s Symphony No. 4—Cho and the orchestra open in Taipei on April 29, followed by South Korean stops at the Seoul Arts Center on May 6, Arts Center Incheon on May 8, and Seoul’s Lotte Concert Hall on May 9, before concluding at Suntory Hall in Tokyo on May 12. Featuring Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1—paired with Mozart’s Overture to The Abduction from the Seraglio and Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 in D major, “Titan”—the ensemble performs in Taipei on May 1, Kaohsiung’s National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) on May 2, the Seoul Arts Center on May 5, and Tokyo’s Suntory Hall on May 11.
Following the orchestral tour, Cho remains in Japan for a series of solo recitals, appearing at the Kumamoto Prefectural Theater on May 15, the Aichi Prefectural Art Theater Concert Hall in Nagoya on May 19th, and The Symphony Hall in Osaka on May 20. His recital program features J.S. Bach’s Partita No. 1 in B-flat major, BWV 825, Arnold Schoenberg’s Suite for Piano, Op. 25, and Robert Schumann’s Faschingsschwank aus Wien, Op. 26, followed by a complete performance of Chopin’s 14 Waltzes.
