Prokofiev with the NY Phil and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra
Seong-Jin Cho returns to one of classical music’s most virtuosic pieces, Sergei Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in G Minor, for engagements with the NY Phil and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. It’s a piece Cho has performed several times, playing with “technical flair, soft shimmers rising from the keyboard and lingering against almost balletic strings” (Bachtrack).
Cho joins the NY Phil on 20, 21, and 22 of February, for a program that also includes Shostakovich’s whimsical Symphony No. 15, as well as selections from the composer’s Moscow Cheryomushki Suite. Performances will take place at Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall, under the baton of Santtu-Matias Rouvali.
Cho appears with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on 27 and 28 of February, and 1 and 2 of March. The 28 February performance will be at Wheaton College; all others will be at Symphony Center. The program also includes Tchaikovsky’s vibrant Capriccio Italien and Sibelius’ majestic Fifth Symphony, under the baton of Santtu-Matias Rouvali.
