Seong-Jin Cho and Vienna Philharmonic Unite for Seoul Performances
Seong-Jin Cho is set to join the Vienna Philharmonic on their upcoming tour in Seoul, Korea. The performances, conducted by Andris Nelsons, will take place on October 25 at the Seoul Arts Center and October 26 at the Lotte Concert Hall. This marks a reunion between Cho and the Vienna Philharmonic, following their acclaimed first collaboration at Carnegie Hall in New York in 2022. Cho’s debut with the orchestra was highly praised, with New York Classical Review noting, “Cho’s phrasing was impressively supple… He played inside the music, which is already so extroverted and public-facing that, rather than the spectacle, one heard the beauty and possible meanings.”
The programme features Beethoven’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 3 in C Minor, op. 37, with Cho as the soloist. This concerto, known for its dramatic power and lyrical beauty, showcases Beethoven’s evolution from Classical to Romantic styles. Following, the orchestra will perform Strauss’ symphonic poem, Ein Heldenleben, op. 40. This ambitious tone poem, one of Strauss’ most renowned works, is celebrated for its vivid orchestration and autobiographical elements.
